The day
What happened
Lily Festival bills itself as Thailand’s first Girls’-Love-only event: a one-day fair of yuri comics, novels and handmade goods from independent creators and publishers. Its third edition was held on Saturday 20 August 2022 in the Sukhothai Room on the seventh floor of JJ Mall, with a 100-baht entry ticket and the promise of special guests.
The guests were Freen and Becky. The publisher lily house. announced that the leads of GAP: The Series would be at its booth from 12:30 to 13:00, that the novel edition of GAP would be on sale for anyone who wanted it signed, and that queue cards for autographs would be handed out from 10:00 that morning.
Why it matters
Meeting the readers first
GAP began as a novel by Chao Planoy, and in August 2022 the people who cared most about it were its readers. Three months before the series aired, Freen and Becky went to where those readers were. Five months later the same book brought them to the B2S Book Talk & Sign, where the crowd no longer fit in the store.
