The premise
Two people, and everything between them
Kath and Lin are together until the death of Kath's father takes her family to America. Lin follows the thing she wanted before she wanted anything else and becomes an astronaut, selected for a mission beyond Earth. Kath returns to Thailand as a competitive free diver.
Their timing is almost cruel. A solar event nearly destroys Lin's ship at the same moment Kath is going deeper than she should. What follows pulls them back toward each other across versions of a life that keep pulling them apart — and the film asks how many times two people will find each other before the finding is enough.
One goes up, one goes down. The film spends its whole running time on the distance between.
Why it mattered
Thailand's first space film
Nobody in Thailand had attempted a film at this scale in this genre. Velcurve built the hardware rather than faking it.
Built, not borrowed
A full-scale spacecraft and a virtual space station were constructed for the production, with the station's design taking its cues from NASA's Lunar Gateway. The set was opened to press in March 2024 as a milestone for Thai film production.
State-backed soft power
Uranus 2324 was one of four Thai films from the 2023–24 production slate selected by the Thai government to receive Ministry of Culture funding aimed at promoting Thailand's soft power abroad — and one of the few projects fully approved in that fiscal year.
Trained, not doubled
Through September and October 2023 the leads worked through dedicated workshops in acting, stunts, free diving and English-language scientific dialogue before a frame was shot.

Two years after its debut, Velcurve brought Uranus 2324 back to Thai cinemas in an extended cut. The Special Version opened on 6 August 2026 and runs 150 minutes — twenty minutes longer than the theatrical release, restoring footage that never made the 2024 edit.
For anyone who has already seen it, that is twenty minutes of Kath and Lin that did not exist on screen before. For anyone who hasn't, it is the fullest version of the film there is.

Audience review
Fans consistently pointed to the leads' emotional delivery as the strongest thing in the film, and to the ambition behind it — a bold, genuinely new direction for Thai queer cinema, even where the pacing and plot coherence divided opinion. Critics writing internationally, including the South China Morning Post, treated it as a landmark of the sapphic sci-fi genre in Thailand. The film's practical effects, visual design and the performances at its center drew the clearest praise.
The fandom itself did real work here: sustained conversation kept the film visible long past opening weekend and pulled new audiences toward the genre.
