Loy Krathong falls on the full moon of the 12th Thai lunar month, when people float krathongs on rivers to honor the water goddess, let go of misfortune and make wishes. In 2024 it fell on Friday 15 November, and ICONSIAM celebrated at River Park under the theme “The Flowing Legacy of Thai Spirit.”

The night’s centerpiece was the Nang Noppamas procession, led by Becky Armstrong as ICONSIAM’s Nang Noppamas for 2024, the first time in her life she had played the role. She wore an applied Thai dress made from eco-friendly materials, designed by specialists, and appeared alongside a Thai cultural performance.

The festival leaned into sustainability: krathongs made from natural and recycled materials, a krathong rail backed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration that collected them after the event, and an international krathong exhibition from 15 embassies. The Tourism Authority of Thailand brought Loy Krathong traditions from five provinces, and the night included a mini-concert and Thai folk bands.
